Long time no talk!

So, it's been about a month since my last post. I've been through a lot in that time and just didn't have much time to post.

What have I been up to, you ask? Well, I finished another term in school. All of my hard work paid off because I ended up with an A- and a B- in my classes. I really had to push hard to get the work done, but I did it. I have to tell you... I'm pretty proud of myself! Motivation seems to be quite the factor these days. But I'm hanging in there. There's a light at the end of the bachelor's tunnel!

George and I have been trying to have another child for the last few months. Unfortunately, it's been without fertile success! So I decided to go see my obgyn. Upon my visit with him I was ordered to have blood drawn, only to find out my thyroid is not working properly. Huh.... go figure. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Now, unfortunately, this does not account for the extra weight I'm packing around. Darn! So close!! But, it also tells me that the weight isn't impossible to get off.

I had an appointment yesterday with an endocrinologist to find out exactly what's going on. In short, they put me on Synthroid, which is a synthetic version of the hormone excreted by the thyroid gland. It's supposed to be a 100% identical match so my body won't be able to tell the difference, nor can it reject the hormone. So, what does all of this mean? Well, your guess is as good as mine. Here's the funny thing about being in the room with a doctor and a resident doctor. Yes, there was a resident doctor in there learning the trade hands-on. So they were talking back and forth, with me sitting on the exam table in my freshly issued paper clothes. Don't ask... anyway, so they're talking endocrinology, and I'm lost entirely. But then they mentioned Scandinavia. Uh, excuse me? What about Scandinavia? Not sure how that tied in with the thyroid, but it came up in conversation, along with root vegetables. Huh.... I was really, really lost! But then they tied it all together by telling me that it really does not have a direct connection to my being overweight. Not really the answer I was looking for, but okay. I have a follow-up appointment in August. For what? I'm not sure there, either... see, I have to have blood drawn about a week before the appointment and then I guess Dr. Carey will track my thyroid levels at that time. Oh, it should be noted that I got into this whole Scandinavian mess when my obgyn tested my thyroid levels and found that my TSH levels, which should be under 35, were actually over 1000. And the other TSH level that should have been under 20 was 1185. How that happens, I don't know. What I do know, though, is....well..... stay tuned for the time that I figure it out. :o)

I have had a wonderful day today. I didn't go to the gym tonight, as I do typically Mon-Thurs. Our daycare providers celebrated their 31st anniversary tonight, so they went out for that. Their celebration afforded me some extra time at home with Madeleine. She has figured out how to open the china hutch where we keep a set of China. Well, evidently in the world of Madeleine, the dishes sound great when they're clanged together. Oh boy... yeah, one of them broke! George got the China from one of his customers for Christmas a couple years ago. So I'll have to explain that to him when he gets home. It's a good thing she's adorable!!

Another high note of the night, since I was home early, was that I made a phone call I've been waiting a looooong time to make. I called Kenna Dalley, who was one of the missionaries who taught me the gospel back in 2000. She and her companion, Tenille Roper, were transferred just weeks after my baptism and I just got in touch with Kenna!! How exciting is that?? But wait! You must hear how it all came about. Kenna's nephew is a missionary in my ward, Beacon Hill. Talk about a small world! I approached him one day after sacrament meeting in church to see if there is some relation, which, as you now know, there is. So, I finally called her after I got her number. I've got to tell you... I am soooo glad I got to talk to her. We exchanged funny stories from back in the day. I can't wait to be able to talk more to her! Unfortunately, she's 3 hours ahead of me, so what I think is early is pretty late there... :o) I added a picture of us before my baptism. From left to right, it's Kenna, me, Tenille and Matt Borders. He's the one that performed my baptism.

Well, Madeleine is asleep....finally! I put her in the tub, she soaked every surface within a 3 block radius, and then after her jammies were on I put her in bed. She's out now! No, she wasn't happy about having to go to bed, but that's how it goes. :o) She needs her rest.

Anyway, I just wanted to share my night with everyone. Actually, my last month or so. There has been plenty more, but I need to get some homework done, so I'll add more later on.

Talk to you soon!
