I can't believe Christmas is upon us already! I remember thinking, "We only have 93 days until Christmas" and then deciding we had plenty of time to prepare! Boy, time sure does fly on by!!
Crystyne had a great idea about posting her traditions for Christmas, so I decided I, too, would do that on my blog. Our traditions are as follows:
Christmas Eve we spend with Grandma Pooh and family (daycare) with the Watson's. We make it a little "family" night, since we're all close enough to be considered family. Maryanne and I were adopted into the "family" because George and Jon were adopted into their family many years ago. So, she and I were inherited, of sorts. :)
On Christmas Day we go over to George's parents' house with the rest of the family. We have Christmas breakfast, which is always biscuits and gravy with hard-boiled eggs plopped in the gravy. I know... it sounds really unappealing, but don't knock it 'til you've tried it!
The weekend after Christmas we go to my parents' house to celebrate with them and my brothers and niece. We have to go there on the weekend bc one, or both, of us always has to work the day after Christmas.
We have our little 4' faux tree that has lights already attached that we set up sometime before Christmas. We don't bother with a real tree because they're costly, and we got this one after we got married from George's mom. :) So, it has sentimental value. Maybe someday when we have the extra funds, we'll buy a real tree. Until then, we will continue to love our little tree!
We also have a small felt Christmas tree that we set out. George got it from a little girl that made it for him on his mission, so he is very attached to it. This tree has eyes, decorations, feet and a broad smile, so we put it on the piano to be seen by all! It's filled with plastic grocery bags to give it some fluff. Inevitably, it ends up all over the house, as my cat Sparkles thinks it's a toy. :)
We pop in the cd "Christmas Tradition" that George's dad made for all of the kids in 2001. It has the Little Christmas Tree, which is spoken by Red Skelton. We just love it!
We sit in the darkened living room at night with nothing but the Christmas tree lit. It's not something that we can do all year long, so we enjoy it while the season is upon us.
Finally, no Christmas season would be complete without Boney M! Yes, they are a group that has a Christmas cd out and they are played on KISS 98.1 quite frequently. I'm sure you'd know their music if you heard it right now!!
Well, that's what we have for traditions right now. We'll surely add more as the years pass and our family grows. :) Now, your turn! What are your traditions?
