Graduation is near...

Some of you know that I'm in my final two terms of school before I graduate with my Bachelor's of Science degree in Forensic Psychology. To say the least, it's been a long time coming! I have two classes this term and three classes next term, after which I'm done! The graduation ceremony I'm planning on attending is in Chicago, IL on August 7, 2010. I am so excited to go to Chicago! I haven't been there in about 15-20 years, so this will be a lot of fun!

One of the things we're considering is leaving August 5 and returning August 8 so we can have a few days there. We are also thinking we might leave the kids behind (picture flying with a 7 month-old and a 4 y/o child...) with Grandma and Grandpa or other family while George and I get a makeshift honeymoon (long overdue, and never taken thus far), and I get to walk in graduation. Ahhh.... I can just picture it already. So, my mom and I were looking at prices this morning on Expedia, and for airfare and hotel accommodations it will cost George and I roughly $1,000.00-$1,500.00. Not too bad. But, here's hoping I get a job soon after I graduate! We'd have time to book everything, get discounts from the hotel for the graduation, and figure out transportation. Part of me wants to drive in Chicago, but since my mom and step-dad will be joining us, we'll probably find something close to the venue and then either walk or hit the rail system. :) Either way, I'm excited!

Now, to figure out what sites to see... I already know I want to go see Oprah, and since Mom's not a huge fan, I'll likely be dragging my poor husband along with me. :) Oh the lucky guy!

My dad and step-mom, unfortunately, are tied up in starting a new business together, so they won't be attending (according to Dad). However, I know that they will be equally as supportive from Florida. :) And either way, I know my dad is extremely proud of me for what I've accomplished. I can't ask for more than that! :)

As it stands, I will be the third person in my entire extended family to continue my education and get a Bachelor's degree. That's on both sides. I am so thankful to my mom and dad for the work ethic they instilled in me, and for always pushing me to do my best. I know I've faultered here and there, but I've always been able to pick myself up, dust off my knees, and move forward again. And I want to instill those same principles in my children. Even George is considering going back to school. :) So... maybe this is part of the family history that I'm supposed to be doing... creating a new legacy within my family! Who knows... What I do know, though, is that I just need to be done and then it's vacation time in Chicago!!

I'm wondering, though... can we request a specific pilot for the plane ride over and back? If so, I'd like to put my order in for Chesley Sullenberger, AKA Captain Sully. :)
