Finally, after 1 1/2 months of being a social worker, Linda and I are caught up! To say the least, there was a lot of work left undone on the side I inherited, so we had a ton of work to do! Sure, it's given me a lot of experience, but it wasn't the best situation to walk into. Still, we just got to the end of the pile today!! What a relief! Now we can focus on stuff for the present day. :)
You know, working in a nursing home has its ups and downs. I was just reading through the obituaries, as I do on a daily basis, and I found one of someone who used to be a resident at our facility. Trudy Ann Hopkins. How shocking it was for me to see that she has passed, since she would come in and visit on a regular basis. She was discharged back home from our facility about a year ago, and had to go to the hospital just recently for a hip replacement. Let me just tell you this... she was an amazing lady! She and her son often returned to visit us after she went home. It's little things like that that tell us we're doing our jobs correctly, and that we're touching lives. When they would walk through the front doors, her son would always say, "Hello there, young lady!", to which my reply was, "How are you kids doing today?" Trudy just loved that, as did her son. They are such caring people. If you get a chance to read her obituary, you'll get a slight glimpse of what an amazing person she was.
It's difficult when people pass away. It's incredibly difficult when it's one of my residents! But it's times like this when I'm thankful for having the gospel in my life. I know that Heavenly Father has a plan for each and every one of us. I know that there is life after death, and that we can be reunited with our family members. This brings so much comfort to me, especially when having to deal with death on a regular basis.
On a somber note, but completely relevant, George's grandma Leppert is not doing very well. She recently went into the hospital for edema (extreme swelling in her legs and feet). Due to a long history of having to take medications, her liver is low-functioning, and her time is very limited. Please, if you think of it, keep her in your prayers. We're all praying for her comfort, both physical and spiritual. She is another amazing lady that has impacted my life greatly! The comfort to us is that she will soon be reunited with grandpa Leppert after 5 long years of separation. :) I would really appreciate your prayers for her.
Thank you!
