Anyway, while we were waiting for the Dr. to come in, Terry poked her head in and said that he just got called over to Deaconess for a delivery and he'd be back in about 30 minutes. She said she'd give us the option of waiting or rescheduling. George wanted to reschedule because he had to be to work in 45 minutes. I told him I didn't want to drive all the way back to the south hill again later in the week, so we needed to wait. He said, "Well, they sort of need me at work." Ha! You can probably guess where that went with me... I said, "Well, you're my husband, and I REALLY need you to be here with me." End of discussion. He called work, and magically, they were okay with him coming in a few minutes late. I told him so. :) Anyway... I'm just sayin'......
So, we waited, and sure enough, the Dr. was back in about 30 minutes. He came in and told me that my thyroid is still off so I have to have more blood drawn in 2 weeks to see where it's at since my last increase of Synthroid. Grrr... Hopefully the increase to 1mg will do the trick, but I'm in good hands, no less.
Then he said that we're at 13 weeks and should be able to hear the heartbeat. So he got right to work and started poking around on my abdomen to find a heartbeat. Well, he found the blood flow to my left leg... then the blood flow to my right leg... he thought he had the heartbeat, but nothing solid. So, he opted to bring in the tummy ultrasound machine. Sure, we were a bit nervous, considering we wanted a positive, happy result...
With the ultrasound machine, he found the heartbeat, but then it disappeared. He was able to find it again, but it disappeared again. George and I were a little baffled... then Dr. Maughan started showing us what was on the monitor. We saw our little Leppert doing twists, turns, flips, clenching its fists and kicking its legs!! That's why we had a hard time finding the heartbeat!! Our little Mexican Jumping Bean, as Dr. Maughan called it, was all over the place, trying to be an acrobat! It was the most amazing sight! We were able to see its body in its entirety, and it was just amazing at how long Little Leppert is on the screen. :) And the cool thing about it all? Dr. Maughan was just as excited as we were! Awww... he's such a wonderful doctor.
So, thankfully, all's well with the pregnancy. I, I mean WE, go back in on Aug. 25 for another ultrasound, and maybe, just maybe, we can find out what we're having. I would love to be able to refer to Little Leppert by its name... either George III (we'll call him G3) or Alexandrhia. I can't wait!! George can't wait!! And Madeleine? She's ready for a little brother AND a little sister. She's super excited! She watches how Kambria loves Eli so much and wants to take a turn at being a good big sister too. :) I think she'll do well.
Ah, but the story doesn't end there... we were on our way out of the parking garage when we noticed a guy was stopped in front of us, blocking the lane. We stopped. He then started to back up. Soooo....George tried to quickly get out of the guy's path since he obviously didn't see us. He swerved around to the left, but the other driver hit the rear quarter panel of my beloved car! Dang! Or should I say... Bang! Ha ha! Anyway, the other driver immediately admitted he was at fault and was very sweet about it all.
I told him to go ahead and back up his van behind our car, and then we would back up to get out of the lane of traffic. Before this decision, however, some bonehead driver in an electric blue BMW was trying to squeeze his car between ours and the van that hit us. Um, hello? Last time I checked, his car wouldn't fit in a 3-foot gap between our vehicles. Thankfully George stepped out of the car, got in front of the BMW, and put his "1-minute finger" up. He yelled, "Hold on! Patience! We're trying to move our vehicles out of the way." Then he got back in the car to move it. Better him than me... pregnant, emotional, and not really in the mood to deal with idiots like that. So...
We got our cars out of the way, and I'll be dipped if another lady didn't try to butt her way through too! Man! So, I took that one and told her to hang on while we got our cars out of the way. She was understanding, but really? Come on, people! Catch a flippin' clue! LOL Employee just a LITTLE common sense.
The guy gave us his information, we gave him our name and number, and then we got to talking. He just got his van changed over 2 weeks ago to accommodate a wheelchair ramp and his power chair. He has MS. I told him about our MS Bike Ride coming up in Sept and he said, "Well, do me a favor. When you're riding, think of the jerk with MS that hit your car." I said, "Give yourself some credit, it's not that bad." Funny how you meet new friends. :) He gave us his daughter's business card in case we ever want to book a trip to go skiing in Colorado. :) Then he gave us his wife's business card, but I'm not sure what she does. I guess I'll have to pay a visit.
At any rate, here are some pics of the damage. We got off lucky, I think. His poor van didn't fare so well.
